About Type Two Three

We started Type Two Three because we wanted to share the incredible Japan skiing experience with others. We’ve been in the Niseko area since the late 90’s and we’ve watched it change from empty resorts and endless powder laps to massive lift lines of people racing to get the untouched snow.

We wanted to give people the real Japow experience, untainted by the crowds, like the old days.

So, we bought some snow CATs and made a private powder paradise on the south east side of Raiden-yama. This area has long been a popular local touring destination due to the snowfall and steep terrain.

Over the years, we watched Niseko visitors overpay at tourist-trap restaurants, battle crowds for hotels and rental cars, and still leave without a genuine cultural experience. Our Week-Long Experience was designed by asking a simple question: How would we host our own friends?

The answer was clear. Rather than joining the crowds, you stay in the quiet town of Rankoshi—eating, drinking, and singing karaoke the way locals do after days of bottomless pow on our private land.

We are a bunch of hardcore skiers and riders who put the skiing experience above the luxury travel experience. We’re here to deliver the goods: consistent snow, hearty food, cozy rooms. A true skier’s vacation. We believe our greatest ski days come from pushing a little further than we thought we could, enduring a little suffering for the payoff, and creating stories worth telling over a beer.

Let us make your Japan story worth telling.

Backcountry CAT skiing Terrain

Unlike typical Niseko cat skiing operators, Type Two Three provides an authentic backcountry skiing experience. We don’t operate on abandoned resorts with cleared runs; instead, we offer 1,800 acres of raw Hokkaido powder. Our terrain is best suited for advanced to expert skiers and snowboarders who thrive in technical tree skiing and natural features.

Our expansive backcountry zones include:

  • Steep tree skiing and mellow, open birch forests

  • Alpine bowls and wide-open powder fields

  • Natural features: Small cliffs (3-5m) and massive pillows/mushrooms

A standard day of cat skiing in Japan with us averages 6–8 runs, with approximately 350 meters of vertical per descent. For those seeking extra adventure, a short ridge hike from our drop-off point unlocks even more exclusive terrain.

Beyond the cat, our expert guides lead backcountry touring across Niseko’s best hidden spots for our week-long guests. With decades of local experience, we tailor every trip to the current snowpack and group ability to ensure you find the best Japan powder
